Hello, my name is Amelia Jane Bedson, and not 'Gilding' as some people now seem to think for understandable reasons. BUT, Gilding is what I do!!…and so, over the past 7 years I've meticulously developed my expertise in caring for all things 'gilded'.
I gained my Bachelors and Masters in the Conservation of Cultural Heritage from the University of Lincoln. Subsequently, I worked in the fine arts sector restoring and conserving gilt frames, objects and decorative surfaces.
In this time I have restored several frames for high profile individuals and celebrities, but unfortunately I'm not allowed to name them 😉.
Whilst developing my gilding expertise, I first came across the ancient Japanese art of Kintsugi. Four hundred years ago the Chinese repaired broken porcelain for the Japanese with metal staples! Understandably, they weren't that impressed. Consequently, the Japanese developed the Kintsugi philosophy and method of restoration for repairing broken pottery with gold, creating stunning unique pieces of porcelain held together by beautiful lines of gold. Kintsugi is such a beautiful art that I felt everyone should be able to use this technique. Consequently, I developed a crafting method that anyone new to Kintsugi could use, to create amazing works of art of their own.
So this is how my professional career as a conservator collided with the world of crafting, and why I decided to develop cross over conservation and crafting @amelia jane gilding. In essence this is, quite literally, where excellence in gilding meets creativity in crafting. Please join me on this journey. Let me introduce you to those ancient Japanese techniques of Kintsugi, and help you learn the methods of the great Masters who gilded those magnificent frames from the 16th Century onwards. Let me conserve, preserve or even restore your own gilt masterpieces. With @amelia jane gilding, art, craft, and history embrace each other, so join me, and let's enjoy that exciting opportunity together.
